music and thingsnew album OUTER REACH
Outer Reach draws deep inspiration from Sonny Rollins' East Broadway Run Down—his last album before stepping away for six years, recorded during a time of social upheaval. Rollins explained the piano-less trio format simply: "a drummer for the rhythm and the bass player for the basic harmony, then I had the freedom to do what I wanted to do."
That's what Brother Ruckus, Gary Johnson, and I were chasing: three musicians swimming in the din together, listening for moments of clarity to emerge. Without the harmonic safety net of piano or guitar, every note carries more weight. You have to listen harder, take more risks, and trust your bandmates completely.
I finalized the compositions shortly before recording. No rehearsals—we learned the music on the session day and captured it fresh. That immediacy was the point.
Recorded at Bird & Egg Studios in Richmond, CA."Northside Walk Up" is out now. First single from Outer Reach. Inspired by Sonny Rollins' East Broadway Run Down and the freedom of the trio format—saxophone, bass, drums.
Recorded live at Bird & Egg by Nino Moschella, with Brother Ruckus on drums and Gary Johnson on bass. Released July 2024, this album captures my collaboration with pianist Omree Gal-Oz in intimate dialogue. We reimagined works by Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Joe Henderson, and Wayne Shorter alongside original compositions, letting each piece breathe with space and emotion. The saxophone-piano duo format allowed us to explore vulnerability and trust, where the compositions themselves carry the weight.Solo project recorded during confinement using saxophones, flute, bass clarinet, caxixi, Ableton Live, piano, and a lot of coffee. Features contributions from Nino Moschella (drums), Ian McArdle (synths), Vincent de Jesus (percussion), Guillaume Farley (bass), and Oliver Twist (barks). Mixed through analog Studer tape at Nino's studio, mastered by John Greenham in LA. Artwork by Alex Besikian. 20 tracks of exploration - a soundtrack without a movie. Released July 13, 2023.A groundbreaking series created on everwave, the web3 collaboration platform we founded. Connecting musicians and producers across five continents, the project has yielded three albums and 17 singles—a testament to borderless musical collaboration.I have the pleasure of being a member of the mighty Barrio Manouche. We fuse gypsy jazz, flamenco, and Latin-American rhythms under the direction of Spanish guitarist Javi Jiménez, and this mostly for the best. We are a San Francisco-based ensemble drawing from the international roots of our members—spanning Spain, France, Brazil, Colombia, Quebec, and the United States. Our sound is charged, and Javi's original compositions create what one critic calls "a rich, gorgeous blend of acoustic Latin-French jazz that transports audiences on a magical journey through diverse musical landscapes. With virtuosic instrumentation and infectious energy, they deliver an unforgettable live experience."
